Electrical design for a 50,000-square-foot histology lab tenant improvement, engineered so the facility keeps screening for cancer through a utility outage and even a single generator failure.
The challenge
A 50,000-square-foot histology lab where the power cannot simply stop. The facility screens tissue for cancer, so an outage that takes the lab offline is not an option, and the design had to hold up even if a generator failed during one.
What we did
We designed the facility around a primary utility feed backed by two standby generators, feeding two bus ducts that alternate feeds. If utility power is lost and a single generator then fails, the lab still has power to keep operating and screening. The layout was also built so equipment can be swapped out easily as the lab's needs change.
Why it matters
For a diagnostic lab, resilience is the whole point. The redundant topology means a power event that would shut down an ordinary facility does not stop the work here.
